Fabian Blum is a young and emerging composer and artist. He was born in 2000 in Siegburg near Bonn, but has lived near Berlin since early childhood. As part of preparatory studies at the Reinickendorf Music School, he received composition lessons from Péter Kőszeghy from 2015 to 2019. Starting from the winter semester of 2019/20, Fabian Blum has been studying composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München (University of Music and Performing Arts Munich) under the guidance of Moritz Eggert.

Fabian Blum has been recognized with various awards: he is a multiple recipient of awards from the composition workshop Opus One of the Berliner Philharmoniker and received recognition at the Carl von Ossietzky Composition Competition. Furthermore, he has collaborated with renowned institutions such as the Staatstheater Nürnberg (Nuremberg State Theatre) and the Residenztheater München (Munich Residence Theatre). His compositions have been performed multiple times at the Intersonanzen Festival for New Music in Potsdam and in 2021 at the Transparent Sound New Music Festival in Budapest. More

Jury’s statement - Leonhard und Ida Wolf-Gedächtnispreis 2025

“Composer Fabian Blum […] already stands out for his far-reaching perspective on contemporary music. […]
That Fabian Blum does not wish to follow in others’ footsteps but to strike out on his own path is shown by his unusual and creative way of documenting his work: a comic score with pop-up elements, integrated into his music theatre. […]”
